Working Fire 29 North Scott Ave.

Companies were dispatched for a working building fire on the morning of Saturday May 1st 05-9 was in command and Crews went in svc with an aggressive interior attack with numerous handlines. Fire was travelling void spaces and the pipe chase. Crews stayed with the interior attack opening up to get to the fire that was in the walls. A second alarm was called for manpower. Fire was also running the roof line through the soffett. Truck companies opened the roof in several spots. With an aggressive interior attack and several handlines in svc the crews were able to bring the fire under control without further spread from the rear to the front of the bldg.

Working Fire in Darby Township

Units arrived with fire showing from a one story building at the DELCO Emergency Services Training Center. Multiple handlines were used to extinguish the fire. Tower 5 along with a Crew from Quint 6 opedn the roof. A special thanks to Frank Wesnoski for the pictures.


 
   
   
Back to Back Buildings in Norwood

The first Building Fire was at 13 E. Winona ave in Norwood, at the Fullmetal Tattoo shop. First alarm companies included  02(Norwood), 08(Prospect Park), 05(Glenolden), 43(Holmes), 07-5(Ridley Park), and RIT 45(Parkside). Tower 5 arrived to find  the first in crew extingishing a small fire located inside of the front door jamb. Tower 5's crew went to the basement to investigate and to secure the power. After the basement was found to be clear the units were released.

Less than two hours later Company 5 was hit out for another Building Fire response in Norwood. This time crews were dispatched to 233 W. Garfield ave for smoke in the building. After investigating, the cause was found to be a smoldering pile of debris which was quickly extinguished and crew were made availible.

Glenolden Fire Company welcomes home Engineer LCPL Thomas Kesser from Iraq. We are very proud and thankful of his service to our country. We would like to thank Holmes Fire Company for helping set-up the arch, Springfield Fire Company for the use of thier flag, and all the police units involved in helping honor all the troops that came home that day.


 
Big Three Forcible Entry Drill

Tonight, Stations 1,5,and 9 completed the first 3 hour Conventional Forcible Entry class at Station 8. This hands-on  class is taught using the Firehouse Innovations forcible entry training Prop.  Companies practiced techniques for forcing inward and outward swinging doors. Single person techniques were also discussed and practiced. We would like to thank Instructor Dennis Gallagher and Prospect Park Fire Company for a great drill.

Accident with Entrapment

On January 2, 2010 at 10:00 Glenolden Fire Company responded to an accident with entrapment on Chester Pike just prior to Oak Lane.  Engine 5 arrived on location to find a vehicle on its side with multiple entrapment.  Engine 5 began with stabilization while 05-9 advised Rescue 1 of conditions.  Rescue 1's crew with assistance from Engine 5's crew  began removal of the roof to free the occupants.  Rescue 43 was also called into assist. Both patients were transported to local hospitals. 


 
   
   
Engineer Tom Kesser visits us before heading to Iraq

Engineer/Marine Tom Kesser was home for a few days before he serves our country and heads to Iraq.  We celebrated Tom's visit by having a little party to enjoy his company and give support to one of our own.  We purchased a Marine flag in support of Tom and had him put it up on our flag pole.  Afterwards, Tom, his parents and the members that came out headed to our basement to enjoy some food and lend our support to Tom.  We wish you well Tom and please come back safe.  We'll miss you. 


 
   
   
Pin Job on MacDade Blvd.

Glenolden Fire Company, along with Holmes and Folcroft rescue companies were dispatched to the 200 block of MacDade Blvd. for an accident with confinment.  Engine 5 arrived first and had one confined and began stabilization until Rescue 43 arrived and began extrication.  Crews from Glenolden, Holmes and Folcroft assisted with the extrication and the patient was transported by Norwood Fire Company ambulance.  Thanks to all companies for a quick and smooth extrication. 


 
   
   
Working Fire in Sharon HIl

Sharon Hill, Glenolden, and Folcroft fire company, along with Darby #1, Collingdale #1, Collingdale #2 and Lansdowne Fire Companies were dispatched to 1210 Woodland Ave in Sharon Hill for the working building fire.  Units arrived to find heavy fire on the second floor with extension into the attic.  Tower 5 arrived on location and took the front of the building and proceeded to open the roof.  Crews also assisted with extinguishment and ventilation.  Company 5 remained on location for 2 hours. 


 
   
   
Chimney fire in Sharon HIll

Glenolden Fire Company was dispatched along with the Sharon Hill, Folcroft and Lansdowne Fire Company to 1110 Woodland Ave for a building fire.  Asst. Chief McCann(09-9A)  advised Tower 5 there was an active fire in the chimney and had Tower 5 ladder the building.  After laddering the building, crews opened up the exterior of the chimney and extinguished the fire.  Crews were on scene for about 60 minutes. 


 
   
   
Working fire on Ridgeway Ave.

Glenolden Fire Company, along with Folcroft , Sharon Hill and Clifton Heights(RIT) fire companies were dispatched to 14 N. Ridgeway Ave. for the building fire at 16:46.  Engine 5 arrived on location with smoke showing and went into service with an 1 3/4".  Crews made forcible entry to the building and discoved a fire on the first floor.  1st in crew quickly knocked the fire while crews from 09 and 01 performed ventilation.  Fire was put under control in 10 minutes.  Fire is under investigation by the CID. 


 
Physicals beginning in 2009

Glenolden Fire Company will be instituting physicals in 2009.

Beginning February 1, 2009, all members that will be responding to alarms will be required to take a physical.  These physicals will be given at Springfield hosital.  Members have until April 30, 2009 to schedule your physical.  The physical will take approx. 2-3 hours.  Members who do not take the physical will not be permitted to respond to alarms.  Forms detailing what is requried and phone numbers of who to call to set up your physical is available. Please see a line officer for this.  Thanks for your cooperation.   


 
Garage fire on Llanwellyn Ave.

On January 1, 2009, Glenolden Fire Company started off the year with a garage fire at 24 S. Llanwellyn Ave.  At approx. 17:00 hrs. Glenolden, Sharon Hill and Folcroft Fire companies, along with RIT 03 were dispatched for a reported garage fire.  Engine 5 arrived on location with a working garage fire.  Engine 09-2 dropped a supply line to Engine 5 with Engine 5's  crew pulling an 1 3/4".  Fire was extinguished quickly and crews remained on location for about an hour doing overhaul.  Special thanks to Brian Feeney for the pics during the investigation.
